Set on Senegal’s Atlantic coast, Teranga is an invitation to discover Dakar through its waves, people and culture. Based in Ngor, our days will revolve around surf sessions adapted to the conditions and each level, with time beyond the lineup to explore Dakar and its markets, visit Gorée Island, discover local food and traditions, and experience everyday life along this vibrant stretch of West African coastline.

WAVES
We’ll surf with people who have spent decades reading this coastline. Each day, we’ll check the conditions together and decide where to go, from Ngor Right and Left to the different breaks around Dakar, adapting every session to the group and the ocean.
ISLAND LIFE
Our base on Ngor Island puts the ocean at the centre of everyday life. Between sessions, days slow down around the beach, the surf house, local restaurants and the small fishing community that calls the island home.
LOCAL CULTURE
Teranga means hospitality, and that spirit is part of the experience. Through Senegalese food, a local cooking class and everyday moments along the coast, we’ll get a closer look at the traditions and rhythms of life here.

Boat rides, changing surf spots, colourful streets and days that won’t always follow the same plan. Teranga is made for experiencing Senegal as we find it, with plenty to discover both in and out of the water.

Diana & Hakim
I’m Diana, founder of Wave Atlas, a passionate surfer, traveller and yoga teacher. I created Wave Atlas from my love of surfing and travel, and from a desire to bring people together through small group journeys around the world.
Joining me throughout the week will be Hakim, a lifelong surfer from southern Morocco who has spent most of his life in and around the ocean. He’ll be there alongside me throughout the trip, sharing his experience, his love for surfing and, most importantly, plenty of time in the water with the group.
We both love meeting new people, discovering new places and sharing the kind of trips we would choose to go on ourselves. We can’t wait to share this one with you.

The Kirié family
Meet François, Yama, Shane and Maria, the family behind Ngor Right Surf House and our local hosts during Teranga.
François has lived and surfed in Senegal since 1999, with over 25 years of experience guiding surfers along the coast. Founder of Surf-Attitude Surf School and an ISA Level 1 & 2 instructor, he’ll be our local surf guide throughout the week.
Yama, originally from Ngor, is a surfer and yoga & pilates teacher who will join us for some of our movement sessions.
Together, they’ll welcome us into their home and share the waves, island life and Senegalese hospitality that make Ngor so special.

Frequent questions & common answers

January is one of the most consistent periods for surf in Dakar.
The peninsula offers a mix of reef and beach breaks, and we’ll choose where to surf each day according to the swell, wind, tides and group level. Conditions can vary from mellow, accessible waves to more powerful reef breaks.

Wave Atlas is open to different surf levels, from beginners to more experienced surfers. Each trip is designed with the destination and conditions in mind, and surf sessions are adapted to the group so everyone feels comfortable, challenged and supported in the water.

You can absolutely join solo. Many people travel alone and that’s a big part of what makes Wave Atlas special. Groups are intentionally small and well balanced, making it easy to connect and feel part of the experience from day one.

Yes. While each trip has a clear structure and rhythm, there is always space for free time. You can rest, explore on your own, join optional activities or simply slow down. Wave Atlas is about balance, not over-scheduling.

To book a trip, you’ll need to submit a request through the Wave Atlas web. Once we receive it, we’ll get in touch with you to share detailed information, availability and a personalized quotation. From there, we guide you through the next steps to confirm your spot.

Yes. A deposit of 30% is required to secure your spot.
The remaining balance will be due once the trip is confirmed.
The trip will be confirmed no later than November 15th, 2026. -
Cancellations made before November 15th, 2026 are eligible for a full refund of any amount paid.
From November 15th, 2026 onwards, the 30% deposit becomes non-refundable.
If the minimum number of participants is not reached, the trip will not be confirmed and all payments made will be refunded in full.
If, for any other reason, the trip is cancelled by Wave Atlas, all payments made will be fully refunded.

Yes. Before the trip, you’ll receive a detailed guide with everything you need to know, including the itinerary, what to bring, local tips and practical information to help you arrive prepared and relaxed.

Wave Atlas does not book flights, but we can guide you on the best options and help organize transfers to and from the destination when needed.

Your arrival transfer from Blaise Diagne International Airport to Ngor is included.
We’ll coordinate your transfer according to your flight details and take care of the journey to our base on Ngor Island.
